Premium Academic Instruction

 The academic programs are intended to be electives for our Day and Overnight Campers. These courses run for the full 4 weeks of overnight camp.


All academic courses are $500 each, and only available during Overnight Camp and Weeks 2, 3, 4, and 5 of Day Camp.

 

 

College SAT Prep Course

College SAT Prep Course: This course is designed for high school campers who will soon be taking or retaking the SAT Test. The class will cover the verbal, mathematical and composition aspects of SAT.


English and Reading

*Composition: This course is designed for middle school campers who struggle with their writing. Emphasis is placed on formulating and organizing five paragraph essays, and also the traits that contribute to good writing. 

Creative Writing: Campers will use their imagination to create short stories, one-act plays, various forms of poetry, and other written work in this creative writing adventure!

Developmental Reading: This course is an individualized program designed to fit each camper’s needs and abilities, ranging from remedial to college level. Vocabulary enrichment, comprehension, and speed reading are emphasized.  It is also for those who are just learning English as well as those who simply enjoy reading. 

Reading: This academic course is designed for campers who wish to enhance their enjoyment of and create a love of reading. Students will be exposed to the best of children’s literature. They will have an opportunity to increase vocabulary, comprehension, and oral reading skills through creative use of books and materials in the library. Small classes result in individual attention.

 

Mathematics

*Mathematics: This program covers Algebra, Geometry and other mathematical concepts and is a review elective designed to meet individual needs as determined by testing at the start of camp. Where indicated, remedial work is designed by the instructor, using both modern and traditional approaches to mathematics instruction. Instruction emphasizes conceptual understanding, drill, and improving computational skills.
